School of Civil Engineering, Southeast University and Institute of Architecture and Technology, Royal Danish Academy Sign Memorandum of Understanding

On the morning of March 23, the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the School of Civil Engineering, Southeast University, and the Royal Danish Academy – Architecture, Design, Conservation was held at the Civil Engineering Building on the Jiulonghu Campus. Attendees included Natalie Mossin, Dean of the Institute of Architecture and Technology at the Royal Danish Academy; Professor Daniel Lee Sanghoon; Xu Jian, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office at Southeast University; Guo Tong, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering; Zhu Yuan, Associate Dean of the School of Architecture; Xie Tianyu, Assistant Dean of the School of Civil Engineering; Chair Professor Kim SeungDeog and Professor Cai Jianguo; and Dr. Marco Meloni.

In her welcome address, a representative from the International Cooperation Office introduced the university’s history, academic strengths, and achievements in international exchange. She noted that both the School of Civil Engineering and the School of Architecture are among the top in China, with strong alignment to the Royal Danish Academy’s expertise in engineering and architecture. She expressed confidence that the signing of the MoU would further promote practical cooperation in joint research, faculty exchange, graduate student training, and interdisciplinary educational activities.

Dean Natalie Mossin expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and praised the academic excellence of Southeast University in civil engineering and architecture. She looked forward to elevating the existing collaboration to new heights through this agreement, creating more opportunities for cross-border study and research for faculty and students.

A representative of the School of Civil Engineering introduced the school’s history and current status. He noted that the MoU was built on a solid foundation of prior collaboration and would help institutionalize, normalize, and sustain the partnership, providing a more stable platform for exchange between the two institutions. A representative of the School of Architecture noted broad potential for cooperation with the Royal Danish Academy in architectural design, urban studies, and heritage conservation, and expressed hope for deeper collaboration in joint student training, academic exchanges, and high-level design workshops.

Following the remarks, representatives from the School of Civil Engineering and the School of Architecture signed the MoU with Dean Natalie Mossin respectively.

After the ceremony, Dean Mossin and her delegation visited the Tang Zhongying Seismic Resistance and Disaster Prevention Experimental Platform, the Seismic Science Popularization Base, and the Intelligent Construction Laboratory at the School of Civil Engineering.

That afternoon, Professor Natalie Mossin delivered an academic lecture titled “Innovation in the Built Environment:through the Lenses of NewSustainable Architecture in Denmark.” Drawing on Danish case studies, she shared cutting-edge strategies for addressing global challenges through sustainable building innovation and engaged in in-depth discussion with faculty and students.
