The 6th National Conference on Application Technology of Composite Materials in Civil Engineering was successfully held in Kunming from December 5th to 7th, 2025. The conference was hosted by the Civil Engineering Composite Materials Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Composite Materials, co-organized by Tongji University and Southeast University, and assisted by Meltstone New Materials (Hebei) Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Hengmeide New Materials Co., Ltd. Professor Wu Zhishen of Southeast University served as the chief consultant of the conference, and Professor Xue Weichen of Tongji University and Professor Wang Xin of Southeast University served as co-chairs. More than 130 experts and scholars from over 50 universities, research institutes, and leading enterprises across the country participated in the conference, contributing to this academic event.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Xue Weichen of Tongji University. He introduced the development history of the National Conference on Application Technology of Composite Materials in Civil Engineering and stated that this conference will focus on "Challenges and Opportunities of Fiber Composite Materials in Civil Engineering under the Dual-Carbon Strategy". The conference will facilitate in-depth exchanges on the latest research progress and engineering application frontiers of fiber-reinforced composite materials (FRP), fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) and their structures, which will provide strong impetus for promoting the deep integration and industrial upgrading of new materials under the background of the "dual-carbon" strategy and high-quality development of infrastructure construction.

Opening remarks by Professor Xue Weichen
This conference featured 27 presentations covering the two major fields of FRP and FRC. Experts from universities such as Tongji University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Nanjing University of Technology, Shenyang Jianzhu University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, South China University of Technology, Dalian University of Technology, and Hunan University were invited to give presentations on cutting-edge topics such as seawater sand concrete, FRP-steel-concrete composites, recycled wind turbine blades, FRP cables, truss bridges, FRP reinforced concrete, data-driven approaches, and mechanical-electrical properties. The participating experts and representatives had a lively discussion on the dynamics, frontiers, and trends of composite materials science and industry development, and showcased the latest technologies and applications of composite materials.
The conference featured a special thematic salon session, convened by Professor Wang Xin of Southeast University, with four invited guests: Professor Yu Tao of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Zhu Deju of Hunan University, Professor Zhou Changdong of Beijing Jiaotong University, and Senior Engineer Gu Kunpeng of CCCC Shanghai Port Engineering Design Institute. The salon focused on four main areas: "Opportunities and Challenges in the Engineering Application of FRP-Reinforced Seawater Sand Concrete Structures," "Development Direction of Fiber Reinforced Concrete," "Key Issues Requiring Breakthroughs in the Reinforcement and Retrofitting of Existing Buildings with FRP," and "Advantages, Bottlenecks, and Application Prospects of FRP and FRC." Participants actively asked questions and engaged in in-depth discussions, jointly exploring the core challenges and development prospects of composite materials in civil engineering.

Special Topic Salon
The closing ceremony was chaired by Professor Wang Xin of Southeast University. He stated that the "National Conference on Application Technology of Civil Engineering Composite Materials" has been successfully held five times (2015 in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu; 2017 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang; 2019 in Zhuhai, Guangdong; 2023 in Dongguan, Guangdong; and 2024 in Urumqi, Xinjiang). The conference has developed into one of the most influential application technology exchange platforms in the field of civil engineering composite materials in my country. Previous conferences have yielded fruitful results, not only promoting the exchange and development of interdisciplinary fields such as composite materials and civil engineering, but also actively driving in-depth cooperation and collaborative innovation among industry, academia, and research institutions. Finally, he announced that the seventh (2026) and eighth (2027) conferences are planned, continuing to drive high-quality development in the field. He called for deepened cooperation to achieve new breakthroughs in civil engineering composite materials technology in China.
