On July 29, 2024, the 2024 Sino-Singapore International Applied Mechanics and Engineering and Asia-Pacific Underground Space and Urban Sustainable Development Academic Seminar was grandly held at the Singapore Nanjing Eco-Hi-Tech Island Science and Technology Innovation Center, under the guidance of Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology and Jiangsu Nanjing Eco-Hi-Tech Island Economic Development Zone Management Committee, hosted by Southeast University, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Jiangsu Underground Space Society, and undertaken by the School of Civil Engineering of Southeast University, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, the Future Underground Space Research Institute of Southeast University, Sino-Singapore Nanjing Eco-Hi-Tech Island Investment Development Co., Ltd., and Sino-Singapore Deep Earth Technology Services (Nanjing) Co., Ltd.
This conference focused on the fields of major national infrastructure construction, major resource and energy development strategies, and discussed applied mechanics, underground space and urban sustainable frontiers and engineering innovation and practice. Professor Li Jianchun from the School of Civil Engineering of Southeast University served as the chairman of the conference, and Professors Yu Jun, He Lei from Southeast University, Zhao Xiaobao from Nanjing University, and Ji Jian from Hohai University served as vice chairmen. More than 130 representatives from 55 top universities, authoritative research institutes and industry leaders around the world attended the conference.

A total of 51 academic reports were arranged at the conference, including 10 plenary reports and 41 special invited reports and academic reports in branch venues. In order to deeply remember Professor Zhao Zhiye, who has worked hard for many years in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Nanyang Technological University and cultivated many outstanding national talents, this conference specially set up the Zhao Zhiye lecture. Academicians Chu Jian and Zhou Yingxin of Nanyang Technological University delivered wonderful speeches at the conference to pay tribute to Professor Zhao. Subsequently, Academician Su Zhiqiang of Southeast University, Professor Han Xu of Hebei University of Technology, Professor Lu Yong of the University of Edinburgh, Professor Ma Guowei of Hebei University of Technology, Professor Xia Yong of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chairman Cheng Guohua of Hangzhou Jianpei Technology Co., Ltd./Zhejiang Zhuoyun Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., Chief Engineer Li Wei of Jiangsu Garden Expo Park, and Professor Wu Chengqing of Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, respectively delivered wonderful keynote reports (in the order of the reports). The conference also set up 4 branch venues, and more than 40 experts and scholars gave special reports and branch venue reports. The reports in the sub-venues covered a wide range of topics, including re-discussions of the basic theories of traditional applied mechanics and explorations of new issues such as interdisciplinary disciplines, resilience and sustainability of underground space.
In recent years, the civil engineering discipline of Southeast University has fully utilized its leading advantages in traditional infrastructure, relying on scientific research platforms such as the National Prestressed Engineering Technology Research Center, National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Smart Construction and Operation and Maintenance and Key Laboratory of Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Structures of the Ministry of Education, and has been committed to the deep integration of new infrastructure and traditional infrastructure construction, and has achieved a series of high-level scientific research results. Through this conference, Southeast University demonstrated its latest achievements in discipline development, scientific research and application practice, further promoted academic exchanges and cooperation in related fields between China and Singapore, and conducted in-depth discussions on key scientific and technological issues in the field of applied mechanics and engineering, and continuously promoted the development of my country's applied mechanics and engineering application fields as well as the sustainable development of underground space and cities.
The venue of this conference, Ecological Science and Technology Island, as a green ecological demonstration area focused on by Nanjing City, provides an international environment with beautiful scenery and complete facilities for the conference with its unique location advantages and forward-looking planning concepts. Ms. Tong Zhengzheng, Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Department of the Eco-Technology Island Management Committee, made a special investment promotion and talent policy introduction of the Jiangxinzhou Management Committee at the meeting, and fully demonstrated the development blueprint of Jianye District and even the entire Nanjing to the experts, scholars and guests attending the meeting, especially introducing the preferential policies and support measures of the Eco-Technology Island in promoting scientific and technological innovation, industrial development and talent introduction. This move not only deepened the participants' understanding of Nanjing Eco-Technology Island, but also built a good platform for future cooperation and exchanges, and created favorable conditions for promoting the integration of industry, academia, research and application and promoting high-quality development of the regional economy.
